Bramnick calls for special session to challenge Murphy’s executive powers

Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick is calling for a special session of the state legislature to end Gov. Phil Murphy’s state of emergency and use of executive orders.

“The legislature must act to end the state of emergency that gives a hundred percent of government control to one man,” said Bramnick (R-Union). “We need the legislature to take back their right to make the laws. For over six months we’ve been ruled by executive orders made without any hearing or public input.”

Every 30 days for the last six months, Murphy continued his public health emergency order, which has allowed him to bypass the Legislature and normal rule making procedures. As of September 1, he has issued 77 executive orders related to the public health emergency.
